Siemens Energy Ltd is a global energy sector leader known for its innovative solutions and cutting-edge technology. The company delivers sustainable and efficient energy systems, covering a broad spectrum of services, including power generation, transmission, and storage. With a strong commitment to excellence and a forward-thinking approach, Siemens Energy continues to shape the future of energy on a global scale. One of the key figures at Siemens Energy is Shane Peel, who has been with the company since 2006.

Starting his career as a technical apprentice, Shane quickly advanced through the ranks, becoming a qualified Mechanical Fitter. His early years were spent building combustion systems and SGT-300/400 Gas Turbines, where he developed a deep technical knowledge. Shane’s leadership abilities soon emerged, leading to his first role as a Team Leader in the Service Engine Build department. By 2018, he had stepped into management, and today, he is the Head of Siemens Energy SGT Assembly. In this role, he oversees the manufacturing of all Compressor Rotor services and SE SGT Core Engines within the Lincoln facilities. Shane's extensive experience in manufacturing and people management makes him a vital asset to the organisation.

Interviewer: Shane, why did you decide to pursue an apprenticeship?

Shane Peel: The decision to pursue an apprenticeship was driven by my passion for hands-on work and the thrill of building things. The practical approach to mechanical assembly was far more appealing to me than a conventional classroom environment. I relished the opportunity to immerse myself in the work environment, training workshops, and business practices, which I found more engaging than continuing academics in a classroom. Moreover, the exposure to cutting-edge technology and products was nothing short of fascinating.

Interviewer: Why did you choose Siemens for your apprenticeship?

Shane Peel: I chose Siemens because it offered the opportunity to move around and learn different parts of the assembly process from start to finish before specialising. This rotational experience was invaluable, providing a comprehensive understanding of the entire manufacturing process. Siemens also has a strong reputation for innovation and quality, which perfectly aligns with my career interests and goals.

Interviewer: What advice would you give to those considering an apprenticeship?

Shane Peel: My advice for aspiring apprentices is to view the apprenticeship as a prolonged interview. It's crucial to always present yourself as a professional, not just an apprentice. This mindset showcases your long-term value to the organisation and nurtures personal and professional growth. It’s about demonstrating your commitment, reliability, and potential to contribute to the company’s long-term success.

Interviewer: Thank you, Shane, for sharing your journey and insights. Your story is truly inspiring and highlights the immense value of apprenticeships in building a successful career.

Shane Peel: Thank you. It’s been a pleasure to share my experience. I hope it encourages more young people to consider apprenticeships a viable and rewarding career path.
